SB 952 “Restrictions on Firearms and Ammunition During Emergencies” will be heard tomorrow (April 8, 2025) in the Senate Rules Committee.

SB 952 would repeal a Florida Statute that prohibited purchasing a firearm or ammunition during a declared state of emergency. Current law says that when there is a local state of emergency, a person may not sell or offer to sell firearms or ammunition, display firearms for the purpose of selling, or intentionally possess a firearm in a public place.

SB 952 would repeal this unconstitutional prohibition on gun rights at a time we need it the most, during state of emergency!

HB 955 : Requires that all private employers, rather than only those employing more than specified number of employees, use E-Verify system to verify new employee’s employment eligibility beginning on specified date. Both the RLC and the FRA support this bill!

HB 6025 would repeal a Florida Statute prohibiting purchasing a firearm or ammunition during a declared state of emergency. Current law says that when there is a local state of emergency, a person may not sell or offer to sell firearms or ammunition, display firearms for the purpose of selling, or intentionally possess a firearm in a public place.

2. SB 56 Weather Modification has passed all committee references and is scheduled to be heard on the Senate Floor this week.
Geoengineering, also known as weather modification, refers to large-scale interventions aimed at deliberately altering the Earth’s climate system to supposedly combat climate change or manipulate weather patterns. These interventions are creating negative impacts on ecosystems, biodiversity, and weather patterns that could harm agriculture and water supplies. Moreover, the ethical implications of manipulating the environment for climate control, and the risk of unforeseen consequences pose significant threats to citizens’ well-being and safety.
SB 56 prohibits any actions that intentionally affect weather conditions within Florida by means of releasing substances or devices into the atmosphere. Any person, including any government agency or private corporation, who conducts a geoengineering or weather modification activity in violation of this section commits a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 and by a fine not exceeding $100,000. HJR 679 creates Term Limits for Members of Boards of County Commissioners and District School Boards; Proposing amendments to the State Constitution to provide 8-year term limits for members of boards of county commissioners and district school boards. Lawmakers approved, and the governor signed, a law in 2022 that limits school board members to 12 years. In 2023, lawmakers and the governor reduced that number to eight. The new legislation would prevent future legislatures from extending their tenure.

While only U.S. citizens can legally vote in Federal elections, current Federal law has undermined state laws that require proof of citizenship for voter registration. This loophole threatens the integrity of our democracy.

Representative Chip Roy’s (R-TX-21) Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act (SAVE Act, HR.22) addresses this critical issue by amending the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) to require states to verify citizenship and identity for voter registration in federal elections.

Documentary Proof Requirement: States must obtain documentary proof of U.S. citizenship and identity – in person – when registering individuals to vote in Federal elections, whether at a DMV, voter registration agency, or by mail.

Time to write Governor DeSantis, Ben Albritton and Daniel Perez and let them know we need to support President Trump and make our Florida Election Security bills more like this Executive Order!

President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order (EO) to preserve and protect the integrity of our American Elections.  It is now up to the states to enact these.

Here are just a few points addressed in the executive order:

• Citizenship proof for voting: It likely mandates documentary proof of U.S. citizenship, such as a passport, to register for federal elections, a move to ensure only citizens vote.  We need this for local state and county elections as well!
  • Funds tied to integrity compliance: Federal election funding could be withheld from states that don’t align with these new integrity measures, putting pressure on states to comply.  We should not be scanning ballots to audit between two images!
  • Paper ballots: The order appears to push for voter-verifiable paper ballots, possibly limiting electronic voting systems or barcodes, to bolster trust in the process.
  • AG to track election fraud: The Attorney General might be directed to collaborate with states to identify and prosecute election law violations, ramping up enforcement. We should also include voter registration reviews for fraud (one of the current bills in our state right now prohibits that!).
  • Cracks down on late ballots: It could prohibit counting ballots received after Election Day, overriding some states’ current practices of accepting postmarked mail-ins.
  • Axes Biden’s voter turnout EO: This likely revokes Executive Order 14019 from 2021, which focused on expanding voter access through federal agencies, a policy criticized by some as overreach.

This executive order, titled “Preserving and Protecting the Integrity of American Elections,” reflects a significant shift in election policy, consistent with Trump’s long-standing emphasis on election security.

HB 1505 Parental Rights will be heard in the House Health & Human Services Committee this Monday (March 31, 2025).

HB 1505 strengthens and broadens parental rights in education, healthcare, and decision-making for minor children by removing barriers that restrict parental access to records for children over 13. It requires schools to inform parents of any updates to their child’s medical records and bans the use of biometric systems on minors without parental consent. Furthermore, the bill reinforces parental consent requirements for medical treatments and school surveys, ensuring parents stay fully informed and actively involved in decisions impacting their children.

In regards to Voter Integrity, Florida has introduced several bills this cycle aimed at addressing MAJOR risks to election security.  In pursuit of strengthening our election security as well as help mitigate risk, SB 1330, SB 394, and SB 396 provides both as well as would be in line with President Trump’s key objectives.  Justification:

1. SB 1330 – ENSURES ONLY US citizens vote in Florida

2. SB 394 -Ensures election results are accurate and trustworthy by preventing, detecting, and correcting compromised technologies that can cause inaccurate results, enable election fraud, or loss of confidential voter information.  It also provides the option for supervisors of election to conduct hand counting.

3. SB 396 – Protects the votes of vote-by-mail voters by preventing and detecting illegal vote-by-mail ballot production, insertion, and acceptance while ensuring all legal ballots are properly counted. Prioritizes in-person voting.

In pursuit of strengthening our election security as well as help mitigate risk, please add SB 1330, SB 394, and SB 396 to your next Ethics & Election Committee agenda.   In addition, these proposed bills would be in line with President Trump’s key directives.
